Immediately picking up from the previous ep, Tsuna demands to know what Spade means by the statement. Spade compliments Tsuna’s great conviction. It is why he must shatter that conviction, beat them senseless to change their minds. It’s the usual way he operates, but he will now engage the Decimo in one-on-one combat. He forms out a walking stick from mist flames and points it at Tsuna.
For two generations, Spade says, he devoted himself to expanding Vongola’s influence, for the Vongola family. Spade attacks.
Reborn takes it up. Daemon Spade was also a Secondo guardian after Primo went into exile. He remained by himself (meaning no other Primo guardians stayed to be under Secondo, only Spade). Reborn also sternly tells the boys and particularly Gokudera, not to interfere with the ongoing fight, to let Tsuna handle it.
Tsuna asks again that they not fight, but Spade says Vongola should not fall apart because of such foolish thoughts of a boy. Tsuna understands how deeply he cares about the Vongola, but Tsuna will not change, he fights only to protect his friends. He has no intention to use his power for other reasons. He disintegrates the walking stick.
Spade is sick of hearing it. Very well, he will eliminate the aforementioned friends who cloud his judgment, looking at the girls. He forms another stick and flies to the girls, Tsuna blocks.
Tsuna charges for X-burner but tries to lower the settings so as not to harm the building and everyone inside. But while he charges Spade engulfs him in an illusion field and tries to confuse Tsuna into firing haphazardly.
Spade’s trick works and X-burner fires straight toward the girls….
…but is blocked by Mukuro’s spinning trident.
After a few seconds of shock (oh yeah, Chrome hasn’t changed into Mukuro in the presence of the girls previously…), Tsuna gives his thanks. Mukuro just says he can’t have other people running wild in his territory. Spade has some explaining to do for torturing Chrome for the last few days. He had observed for a few days.
But instead of attacking directly, Mukuro lets the other one do it. And so saying, Tsuna comes hands and feet a-flying at Spade.
Spade tries to make another illusion field but Mukuro quickly breaks it, allowing Tsuna to ready for X-burner. He fires straight at Spade.
Outside, Chikusa and Ken wake up to find their headquarters back where it should be.
But Spade is probably not far away even if he disappeared. After all, they all did not come with bodies. So Tsuna addressed open air with authority. Spade does appear again, now with no intention to battle. Anything he says will be wasted on Tsuna, he says.
He addresses the Mist ring guardian, a title Mukuro resents since he did not assume it by choice (so he says). Mukuro tells him Sawada is merely his target.
What will you accomplish by defeating him? Spade asks. Destruction of the mafia and takeover of the world, the usual spiel, answers Mukuro. Spade is first shocked, then laughs. Is destroying the mafia even possible?
Okay, so Spade seems to have found a kindred spirit in his Decimo equivalent, but all the same, why did Mukuro save the girls? Whether he evades or says the truth, Mukuro answers that he does not care for any of the people there. That clinches it with Spade, and he deems Mukuro worthy of the inheritance he has to give. But Mukuro isn’t interested and Spade is free to do what he wants. Mukuro surrenders Chrome again to Tsuna, and disappears to bring her back.
Primo appears before Spade and he gives his thanks about Spade’s part in testing the mist guardian. Spade actually smiles like he was happy to serve, he simply acted for the sake of his ideal Vongola. Still, he fulfilled his duty, Primo says. Spade frowns and says Giotto hasn’t changed.
Spade notices Tsuna considering how Primo still treasures Spade as a guardian, despite being a traitor. Spade in any case deems the mist ring holder worthy. Tsuna smiles and says thank you sincerely, a bit to Spade’s surprise.
As Chrome brings out the box, Kyoko and Haru help her raise it up, and Chrome smiles. Meanwhile Spade says that no matter how Tsuna resists, he will realize that Spade is right, and the power he will give will be useful then.
Now that the mist guardian’s trial is done, Tsuna faces the Primo and asks directly what he must do now. But Giotto says that Tsuna meets his expectations already, but is still hiding a wealth of potential. In all the trials Tsuna always thought of his guardians and friends first. He witnessed Tsuna’s resolve to protect the family and was impressed. The family thus acted accordingly.
Tsuna is deemed worthy, and is given his own flame. Proceed down your chosen path, Vongola Decimo, the Primo says.
Congratulations go around, and Reborn says Tsuna is finally getting resolve about being the boss of the family. Tsuna falters that no, no, the mafia still scares him. But Reborn corrects him. Tsuna did not inherit an organization, he inherited the Primo’s will. The Vongola began as a vigilante group. It was founded to protect others. Tsuna inherited that will.
At the shrine, Giotto approaches Spade, looking down at his pocket watch, clocking 12:01. The words on the back of the watch cover, in Italian, “Giuro eterna amicizia”, mean a vow of eternal friendship [“I swear eternal friendship”, Google Translate says. Also, you’ve probably seen enough Roman buildings to know that V often stands for U, to explain “giuro” being spelled as “givro”.]. That hasn’t changed, Giotto tells him, Always a fool, Spade replies, which is why Giotto disappointed him in the end. He doubts they will cross paths again, and says farewell.
The other Primo guardians appear behind Giotto. He compliments them all, and says they will all now return to the rings. They fade away and all the guardian rings light up.
Similarly the Arcobaleno slowly take their leave of each other, Mammon first then Verde (disappearing into a shaft, lol). But before Mammon flies too far, Chrome runs and gives her thanks. It was not much, Mammon says, and it seems Chrome has improved. Also, Squalo and Bel come and fetch Mammon. Colonello gives his final words to Yamamoto and Ryohei, and Fon does the same to Gokudera and I-pin. Reborn leaves it up to a terrified Skull to tell Hibari to show up at the Namimori shrine the next day.
It seems the others have somewhat forgotten: they have to go back to the future. Yamamoto and Gokudera are psyched, but Tsuna and particularly Ryohei are worried. Talk it over with me tonight, Reborn tells him.
Back home, Ryohei goes to talk with his sister, who immediately says she’s okay with going back to the future. She does not want to be left behind while the rest of them fight.
Tsuna and Lambo are already conked out while Uni and Reborn talk about Aria’s pacifier getting back to her. He apologizes for making Uni use her power, and even if Uni says it was no big deal, Reborn frowns deeply.
Everyone assembles the next day at the shrine, all ready to go.
And they all appear in front of Spanner after ten minutes in his time.
The real battle is about to begin. The will use the power they acquired to protect Uni, defeat Byakuran, and return to a peaceful Namimori.
– WHAT? The subarc is DONE?! Awww, my work is done?!
– Still no Arcobaleno backstory? And is that all the backstory we’re getting about the Primo group?!
– Well, since it looks to be all we’re getting…I’ll see about next week if my services are still needed (I think it will be).
– I did like this filler arc set, but I liked the Arcobaleno trials better. That said, I liked getting to know Fon a little better, and I most appreciated that he’s now tagged along like Colonello, as an ally. Also, it was fun knowing about the Primo guardians, even for a bit.
